Astronomy & Astrophysics

Vol. 536 (December 2011)

An Ariane 5 rocket carries Planck to space on 14 May 2009. The background is part of a multi-colour all-sky image of the microwave sky, synthesized about one year after launch sing data spanning the full frequency range of Planck, and showing both the cosmic microwave ackground and the major sources of foreground emission. (ESA/C. Carreau)
(see Planck special feature)

Herschel discovery of cold debris discs around mature stars (Eiroa, C., et al., 536, L4)

Motion of the red giant in the binary system SS Lep (Blind, N., et al., 536, A55)
